Support The Albie Project: a coastwide community campaign to learn more about and protect the future of false albacore. These limited edition ASGA hats sport a surging albie chasing bait and the brand logo for the Association fighting to protect an underappreciated species. ASGA is currently preparing for its second season of acoustic tagging research in partnership with the New England Aquarium. Additionally, the ASGA team executed genetics work with albies caught over a 72-hour window in Harker’s Island (NC), Montauk (NY), and Cape Cod (MA).
All proceeds from Albie Project hat sales will go directly towards funding these research projects.
Albies have a cult following throughout the Atlantic coast. For inshore light tackle and fly anglers, there aren’t many species that put up the pound-for-pound fight or generate frothing, visual feeds that false albacore do. There are an estimated half of a million trips targeting false albacore annually. Unfortunately, however, there is no management or scientific understanding of this species important to coastal communities throughout much of the Atlantic coast. ASGA recognized how valuable this species is to our membership and leveraged our network to learn more about albies with the goal of convincing fishery managers to establish some precautionary management for this often-overlooked species.
