The fishing industry has lost an icon. The family and friends of Philip “Flip” Pallot are terribly saddened to share the news that Flip passed away on August 26, 2025.
Fly fishing is the greatest sport in the world. Imagine loving baseball, finally meeting Babe Ruth and realizing that he is cooler than you imagined. That’s how you felt when meeting Lefty Kreh and Flip Pallot. The icons of our sport were the best folks imaginable. They always had time to teach the next generation. They loved getting kids involved in the sport. They were masterful storytellers. They knew they were part of something so much greater than all of us. Most importantly, they played the long game and developed the next generation of fly anglers to carry the torch.
For over a decade, Flip’s show “Walker’s Cay Chronicles” made us love places we never visited. It was a perfect marriage between reality and imagination that drove anglers to explore, push boundaries, and protect what we hold so dearly.
Just recently, hundreds from around the country flocked to Lefty Kreh’s Tie Fest, hoping to spend time with Flip. Unfortunately, he could not attend, as he chose to stay by his family in a time of need — a true example of Pallot’s character.
Instead of our words, we’ll leave you some from the legend himself. A toast Flip wrote for a heartfelt evening in honor of one of his closest friends, Lefty Kreh…
“Just sorry doesn’t begin to cover how it grieves me not to be schooled up with y’all for this event. Not only a gathering of most of the folks I respect and admire, but for two other reasons as well. Honoring Lefty in a way that was so very dear to his heart—fly tying—is something I want to be a part of!!! And for research to ensure and protect a fish species that I grew up loving—jack crevalle—I’m all in!!!!
I couldn’t make it tonight, but I thank all of you for your presence and dedication. I, and Frigate Reserve, offer this toast to Lefty Kreh […] and to all of us who pole into the wind. I’m so damn lucky to have come up among such folks at such a great time in angling, and in places of Spanish moss, and with a religion consisting of firelight around campfires...
We toast a glass of Flip’s Rum—Frigate Reserve. It’s got a pedigree, and a soul bathed in those campfire firelights, and misted in saltwater spray. We lift our glass. This toast is to Lefty, from Flip, and to all of the legends inside every one of us that they saw.”
We stand on the shoulders of giants who pioneered the great outdoors. Flip Pallot was one of the finest to do so. Let us all try to adventure further, live bolder and fight harder to protect the wild places they helped us fall in love with. There will never be another Flip. But his legacy lives on through all of us who love wild places and the fish that inhabit them.
Bye For Now…

I only crossed his path a couple of times at fishing shows, and that “aura” surrounded him most certainly. He had a long run, at 82-years-old, but in his case – it wasn’t long enough for me. Condolences to his family and friends from Texas.
